Links to classes to acquire HAM radio license

FRS (Family Radio Service), GMRS (General Mobile Radio Service), & Amateur HAM radio licensure

FRS does not require testing or licensing for the FCC.

GMRS does not require testing BUT DOES REQUIRE A LICENSE (good for 10 years for an entire family)

FCC is lowering the cost of the GMRS license from $70 to reportedly $35. This has not taken effect yet.

Amateur HAM radio requires successful testing to be licensed. There are three classes of licensure.

  1. Technician – allows a person to use UHF & VHF frequencies (local communications)
  2. General – allows a person to use UHF, VHF & HF frequencies (local and worldwide)
  3. Extra – allows a person to use small exclusive bands on the above frequencies

Hello, I am brand new to CORAC and exploring the resources here. What a collection!
I’ve started studying for my technician license and am planning to take the test in January (maybe December if I am feeling confident).

Thank you for the work you have put into creating these guides.

If we are using the HF band, then from the information above, a Technician license would NOT allow communications on the 40 meter band. Is this just a documentation mistake above?
