Lord Jesus, in You, parched hearts find living water.

This newsletter is purposely going out after the primary elections in Texas, as Charlie will be more available after the primary campaigns are over. He believes, as many others do, that as Texas goes, so goes the nation.

That might be overstating the case, but Texas is certainly noteworthy, and as a Texan, I’m thankful to have Charlie on our political turf. Meanwhile, we all have enough to fill our plates. More important than anything else is Lent, our season to willingly embrace suffering in union with Christ, and tame our more troublesome appetites.

Opinions expressed in this newsletter, unless otherwise attributed, are my own.

Authority, Moral and Otherwise

When I was in junior high school, I often heard stories from classmates about how they ordered their younger siblings around arbitrarily, just for fun, until their parents would catch them. It occurred to me that I had more real authority over my siblings than any of them did, because I occupied a peculiar no-man’s land between sibling and parent. I was an ancillary parent to my younger siblings, while still being a sibling – and my parents always stood behind that authority (as it gave them support and relief as well).

Once I decided to try to use that authority arbitrarily to my advantage. The premier chair in the living room for watching TV was Dad’s. If Dad was not there, whoever was in it first had the right to it. It’s just how it was. The day I launched my experiment, my brother David was ensconced in the chair. I ordered him out of the chair. He asked why. I told him because I wanted it. He was stunned and outraged but he did it, because I had the clear authority to give such orders. When I sat down in the chair, it felt like acid in my mouth and a rock in my stomach. It was so unfair – and I had perpetrated the injustice. I don’t think I lasted five minutes before I got out of the chair and told David it was his again.

I thought a lot about that. My feelings of self-loathing while briefly sitting in the chair were intense. I eventually came to the conclusion that the reason I had so much authority over my siblings was because I was just. My parents both appreciated the help, and my siblings accepted the direction – because I was just (except for that time). I had real authority that all accepted because I did NOT use it for self-advantage, but for the good of all. And they knew that, even when I honestly erred.

I came to the further conclusion that there are two types of legitimate authority. (Undoubtedly there are more, but the following two were the key to my thought on the subject). There is formal authority and there is moral authority. Formal authority is appointed by a greater authority – usually management or an electorate. Moral authority rests on those who act justly and try hard to do right by all. The longer and more consistently a person lives that, the more moral authority amasses around the person.

I loved baseball and had organized our neighborhood into one of the biggest, coolest sandlot leagues ever. One day, a few older kids who were visiting family played with us. At one point, a big argument broke out about a call. After it went on for a few minutes, some of the kids asked me what I really thought. I told them and everybody started to go back to the game. One of the visitors asked, with anger, “What, is this guy always right? Why do you do what he says.” One of the regulars said, “No, Charlie isn’t always right, but if we get in a jam, he always says what he really thinks, whether it helps or hurts his team. So we can spend our time playing ball instead of fighting.” Formal authority is granted or appointed. Moral authority comes from the ground up.

Leftists think that formal authority is everything. But when they manage to get it, they act like my old classmates, thinking it is license to boss everybody around and that they have to do what the leftists say. In the process of that, they squander what moral authority they have. The reality is that formal authority without moral authority is a dead man walking. The world over, it is the precursor to revolts.

Formal authority can be taken as capriciously as it is given. Moral authority is cultivated by a commitment to justice and fairness for all. It is granted by your fellows and approved by God – but you must cultivate it by your commitment to doing the most right thing you can think of in all circumstances. Once it begins to amass, it is a stubborn thing that grows and brings peace and cooperation. Once lost, it is hard to regain.

In all that we do, formal authority will sometimes come to us and sometimes leave us. But moral authority is a quality of character. In the end, it is what builds up rather than tears down.

It bothers me a lot when I see people I otherwise agree with use transient formal authority they have gained to try to impose their will on others. Formal authority is like a wave on the ocean; showy, frothy – and transient. Moral authority is like the tide; its quiet, mostly unseen power changes the very landscape.

As we go forward, let us work to see that whatever formal authority rests transiently on us is exercised in a manner that enhances our moral authority by the justness with which we exercise it. That is a key part of how the faith and face of the world will be renewed. Always remember that Christ did not force anything on anyone. Rather, He invited people to Him – and lived such justice that many rejoiced and joined Him. It is a scandal and a contradiction when people try to coerce the will of others in His name.

Work so that you attract people to your orbit. Do not seek to compel them to your will. The former is like a furnace, where fire is contained and directed to give warmth. The latter is like a wildfire that destroys everything in its path. Be a builder, not a destructor.

The Vaxxx

The peak vaxxx uptake months were January through June, 2021, so we’re 5 years out from the initial event. At the time, truth-telling doctors predicted the most damage would occur in years 3 to 5. So what exactly has happened in that period?

The graph here shows excess mortality from all causes, actual compared to the average expected based on years before covid. The line of expected deaths hits a little peak each winter; that‘s the black line. The blue line traces actual deaths. The first spike of actual over average is April 2020, when people were isolated, Remdesivir was being given and the oldest generation was decimated. The second big spike occurred in January 2021, when the vaxx was being rolled out, then a smaller spike in September 2021. More big spikes in January 2022, and January 2023.

Since the expected death curve (black line) already takes account for the seasonal uptick of mortality in January, the spikes in actual deaths (blue line) are due to something else. People tend to catch viruses in the wintertime, when their levels of outdoor activity go down, but since 2021, the winter effect has been much greater. In short, more people are dying during the annual “cold season” than have died in the past. Many more.

That makes me think that ADE, antibody-dependent enhancement, which real scientists warned us about in 2021, actually did have an effect. ADE is a mechanism whereby suboptimal antibodies actually increase the severity of an infection. The below paragraph is from the CORAC newsletter of June 11, 2021:

ANTIBODY-DEPENDENT ENHANCEMENT
Phenomenon that occurs when a virus binds to a sub-optimal antibody, which facilitates entry into cells, and then replication of the virus, exacerbating the immune response, which is capable of causing inflammation and serious organ damage. This response has been observed with previous vaccines in animal trials, most notably SARS and MERS. There is not hard evidence yet, but there is much speculation and warning: “Given past data on multiple SARS-CoV-1 and MERSCoV vaccine efforts that have failed due to ADE in animal models, it is reasonable to hypothesize a similar ADE risk for SARS-CoV-2 antibodies and vaccines.” (Ricke, Frontiers in Immunology)

Here’s another graph from Our World In Data, which shows that Africa, in general, was lightly vaccinated. The most vaccinated nations were Cuba, Chile and Japan, followed by Australia, Canada, Argentina, Peru and Portugal.

You can predict the excess mortality by the number of doses taken in each country. Russia is that huge landmass in the upper right-hand corner of the map. It’s light, and their excess mortality is light, at least compared to others. (7% excess mortality is still catastrophic.) Australia and Canada had heavy vaccination; their excess mortality is high.

Don’t you wonder why no one is talking about this? This is excess mortality, deaths above the level of the recent past. It’s all-cause mortality, so it takes account of sudden unexplained death, turbo cancers and cardiac damage.

Here’s one more set of graphs for anyone still with me. The graph on the left is average number of covid vaxx doses averaged over total population, by state. On the right are the breakdown of red/blue states by 2024 voting. I think we had already intuited that the blue states were much more enthusiastic about the vaxx than the red states, despite Operation Warp Speed occurring during Trump 1.0.

For anyone who prefers narrative to graphs: the states with the highest vaccination rates were blue; the states with the lowest rates are red.

The excess mortality tables only deal with deaths, and there are untold numbers of permanently disabled victims of the shot. That is something only the insurance companies can reveal. I will look for that information for the next issue. Meanwhile, see Coffee & Covid Friday March 6 for the good news about help for vaccine injuries.

Most of us “stood down” during 2025, we were so relieved to be out from under the maniacal policies and personalities of the Biden administration. However, the war against the Deep State is heating up, perhaps terminally, and we know they will not go quietly. It wouldn’t be a bad time to just check over your preps: rotate by expiration dates, refill water sources, make a communication/meetup plan for your family.

Take a look at the dropdown menu on the website under the tab “Member Resources.” There is a category list (Health & Wellness, Sustainable Living, Communications, Education, Defense, Prayer) with many resources on each page. Check to see if there’s anything that needs your attention.

Iran Hot Takes

Everyone has their own version of what’s going on in Iran. I won’t use this space to lay out mine. It’s all too new, complex, and subject to change. I’ll just lay out a few puzzle pieces that you may not have run across elsewhere.

Geriatrics

Our Congress has been notably aging for so long (no term limits) that a sizeable chunk, and most of the power players, are in their 70s and 80s. As of 2026, there are 24 members of Congress who are 80 or older, with more than half of them running for re-election. Why are people like Pelosi, Sanders and McConnell still doddering into the office, some with clear impairments? Not to mention Biden, who has mercifully disappeared from public view.

Ordinary people pull back and retrench in their older age. There are grandchildren, travel, books, gardens and friends to give our attention to, all those things we didn’t have time for when we were working. So why are so many unwilling to hand off their duties to younger, more clear-headed and independently mobile successors?

I can only think of two reasons. One, they are protecting knowledge or power so sensitive they can’t trust anyone else with it, lest they be found out. Or… some people actually do think that they will live forever, or at least a lot longer than the rest of us.

That is one of the only plausible explanations for powerful people consuming human flesh, and especially that of embryos or babies, which we now know is more than a conspiracy theory. They think it will keep them young, and there actually does seem to be some evidence for that, though we need more information.

Justice is coming. Someday, those people will not be able to walk down the street.

Pillars of Faith

New video from Bishop Joseph Strickland here >

It’s a comfort to listen to someone who isn’t pushing a worldly agenda, whose fidelity is to Christ alone, and His Mystical Body. From the latest Watchman’s Lamp podcast, When A Civilization Rejects Its King:

There are moments in history when evil hides in shadows. And then there are moments when the shadows themselves begin to tear open and people see things that reveal how far a human soul can fall when it turns away from God.

We are living in such a moment.

Across the world, things are being revealed that many people once would have thought impossible – corruption intertwined with power, influence shielding crimes, institutions struggling to explain their silence while truths long buried begin to surface.

And many people are asking the same question: How did things become this dark?

But perhaps the more important question is this: Why are we suddenly able to see it?
