I had no idea that my life and an entire way of programmed thinking was about to change. In August, my husband approached me with information that CORAC was conducting a Gateway to Homeopathy class. The curriculum was written by Joette Calabrese and the study group was led by CORAC’s own, Mick, with additional tidbits from other knowledgeable members of CORAC. I had absolutely no idea what homeopathy was, or what it had to do with me, but my husband used the comment, “this is right up your alley.”   God had been giving me signs for many years (that would take longer than a few paragraphs) that our medical system was broken, and I had ALWAYS felt uncomfortable giving our four children OTC and prescription medications. Although, I allowed all traditional vaccines, I declined any of the newer ones without solid, proven research (ie. Gardisil). I was medically conservative when it came to my family and would often have them “suck it up” with a seemingly minor symptom or discomfort.

Homeopathy? Well, it couldn’t hurt to check it out.

That first zoom class was overwhelming! In hindsight, it might have behooved me to actually read the chapters first because the information was all there! I felt like I had gone down a rabbit hole as this information was nothing like I had been exposed to in all my Generation X years. However, by the end of the second class, I was hooked. You mean, I can help my family on a day-to-day basis without trotting to the doctor or automatically putting chemicals in their bodies? Homeopathy has been around for hundreds of years? It’s safe, effective and has no debilitating or deadly side effects? It’s not addicting? I can even treat my pets and livestock? I NEED to learn this.

Before I even finished the study group, and with a dose of confidence from Mick, I first treated my husband. He had been bitten almost two weeks before several times by what we believe was a brown recluse spider on his forehead while cleaning out eaves of our beach house. It had swollen to a size of a baseball and was black where the bites were and angry red around. When I told Mick, she told me to start treating him immediately. Within a few days, it had healed dramatically. The skin around the bites was still strange looking so we tried a different remedy and that continued to improve. Since then, I have treated:

• Back spasms: my husband on all fours, not moving, who within 6 hours felt good enough to work out
• Our daughter who had been battling a respiratory virus for a week: within 5 days of treatment, she was almost back to normal
• Our son with sinus congestion
• Our 8-year-old who had gotten hit in the mouth (accidentally) by his older brother. Subsequently, he ended up losing that baby tooth within 36 hours with no blood.
• My aching back after an intense cleaning spree with hours of mopping
• Our son, with an earache
• Our one-year-old puppy who got stung by a yellow jacket

Currently, I am treating my husband for a chronic and old shoulder injury and have finally taken the 8-year-old off of Zyrtec which he has been on daily for months, continually and on-and-off for years for allergies, eczema and mild asthma. I am also preparing to be able to treat my 75 year-old mother should medical care become unavailable in the future.

I am heading to Auburn this weekend to visit my junior, pre-med daughter. With homeopathy, I have also learned to graft the homeopathic remedies in my possession which means I don’t need to buy them again. I can make them in perpetuity. My daughter has several issues for which I have made her a personal remedy kit with instructions so I can treat her when I’m not even there.

I had no idea when I made the choice to attend this study group that my entire family’s life was about to change forever. I have never felt so empowered.
