Preparedness

Posted on 2023-07-21

Yesterday was my wife’s and mine 47th wedding anniversary, hence no posting to the Monday Musing. Preparedness has been a big part of my life for 14 years, and have invested a good sum of money and time towards that goal. Here’s a list of what I currently have:

  • 10kw gas powered generator, connected to my breaker panel, with a bypass similar to the one in a video I posted earlier. Yes, there is gas stored.
  • 800w gas generator, mostly for camping to keep the battery in our camper charged. I also have a 100w solar panel to help do the same.
  • Two lead acid batteries, connected in parallel, and kept charged by a smart charger. I do have an extension cord that runs out to my garage to hook up to a generator, if needed. There is a 1kw inverter connected to the batteries to produce AC.
  • Have another inverter with heavy power leads that can be connected to the car battery, and while running the car, it acts like a generator.
  • Latest addition is a 200w solar panel that is connected to a Goal Zero Yeti Core 1000w solar generator.
  • Also have a small woodstove and a decent supply of dried/cut wood. Will be adding to that supply this summer and fall.
  • Fortunately, I have my own well and septic, so not depended on local government for those needs.
