  5. The Sound of Distant Thunder

On May 13, 1981, the anniversary of the first apparition at Fatima, a crazed man tried and failed to assassinate Pope St. John Paul the Great. St. John Paul later credited Our Lady with redirecting the intended fatal bullet. On Saturday, July 13, 2024, the anniversary of the third apparition at Fatima, a crazed man tried and failed to assassinate President Donald Trump. About a millimeter more to the right and Trump would have perished. Despite the dark chaos the left would bring on us, I think the Lord has sent Our Lady to keep hope from perishing. I wish she didn’t have to be so busy.

What bumfuzzled me was the way the gutter press characterized it. They said that a “loud noise” interrupted his rally, or a “popping sound.” One headline said that his rally was interrupted by the Secret Service after he fell on stage – no mention that he fell after being shot. Various talking heads fretted that he came up saying, “fight” after being shot…and worried that his failure to dial things down meant that Democrats might be targeted by assassins. They did their dead level best to minimize this as an “incident” or blame Trump for getting himself shot. I know the corporate media thinks it is their job to never show Trump in a sympathetic manner, but did they really think people would not know this was an assassination attempt? And almost immediately after the crisis in credibility that engulfed them by being caught lying about Joe Biden’s condition?! Unbelievably, they choose to tank their credibility even further for all the world to see?! It is almost as if they said, “Hey, if you still doubt we are corrupt, lying, hacks – watch this!”

On social media, much of the tolerant left was bummed because the assassin only grazed Trump. Astonishing. And these clowns still tell themselves they are noble and enlightened, even as they can’t hide their inner Joseph Goebbels. It was a disgusting display that says a lot about where we are as a country. After Ronald Reagan was shot, I remember a few random instances of such behavior reported – done by people who were instantly ostracized by everyone around them. As I write this, already the media has starting blaming Trump heavily for the assassination attempt. They cite his “hateful” speech. They rarely get specific about what he says that is hateful, but when they do, it almost invariably turns out to be a lie they made up. They are beclowning themselves as visibly and unmistakably as Joe Biden did a couple of weeks ago.

The modern left has gotten caught in a rock slide. They have lost their footing and can’t get it back, getting crushed by lies of their own making raining down on them. They can’t help but bare their teeth and show their malice with each new crisis, driven into impotent fury that they can no longer set the narrative. They have become maddened by their obsession with power and control, unameliorated by any sense of eternal accountability. It has trapped them in a diabolic disorientation, like Smeagol, once a sort of hobbit whose obsession destroyed all that was honorable and decent in him, leaving him a spiritually and physically desiccated husk, the Gollum, who scarcely resembled anything human. While the obsession destroys them spiritually, it leaves them unable to contemplate anything but force, coercion, and treachery to achieve their aims. They are in the process of destroying themselves right now. Make no mistake: until it is complete, they are deadly dangerous. They may choose to drop the mask entirely and try to capture the country through force – fomenting civil war or declaring martial law. They may try to aggravate existing wars or foment new ones to establish chaos, which may give them a chance to hold onto power. Seeing the sympathy bump the assassination attempt gives Trump, they may slap a MAGA hat on one of their BLM/Antifa minions and have him take a shot at Joe Biden, hoping to solve two problems at once. Do not underestimate their depravity. They are demonically disoriented and they have no loyalty to anyone or anything, including each other. It is all about holding onto the precious.

I have said that there is no political solution to the fundamentally spiritual problem before us. I maintain that. But with this bullet missing because of a fortuitous turn of Trump’s head on this Fatima feast day, and his presence of mind to come up and reassure the crowd after being hit, I am thinking that it may well fall to Trump to lead America through this crisis. BUT, if you think you can sit back and let him do all the heavy lifting, you will help secure the destruction of the country.

The scheming, unrepentant leaders of the left have a very hard time ahead of them. In their frenzy they will do all they can to make sure ordinary Americans have a very hard time, as well. When all is said and done, they must be banished, either imprisoned or forced into exile. Perhaps some remote area of Alaska can be set aside for an exile camp, or re-open Alcatraz and look for small, uninhabited islands. This blind viciousness must be entirely banished from our land or there can be no peace. Whoo boy, do we have a whole lot of wood to chop!

I wrote this next segment a week and a half ago. It is now a bit dated, but I think it is germane and useful to seeing what the progression of this all is. God is beyond revealing things now: He is separating the sheep from the goats.

Like radiation drifting from a nuclear explosion, fallout from Joe Biden’s disastrous debate performance late last month has barely started – and is ultimately going to hit the establishment media and high Democratic officials harder than it does Biden. Whether or not the Dems replace Biden on the ticket is utterly irrelevant to the fallout that is coming.

When uneasy denial of basic truths are publicly and dramatically punctured, it takes a while for people to wrap their heads around the major implications of the revelation, much less all the implications. When they do, the world can change dramatically. And quickly.

Many people were genuinely shocked at how deep into dementia Biden is at the debate. That was the first shock. Now those people who were genuinely shocked are contemplating how this could have happened without them knowing. After all, just a few weeks ago all the establishment media and Democrat officials were telling them Biden was sharp as a tack and more energetic than his staffers in their 20’s. Any videos suggesting the contrary were just “cheap fakes,” they were told. Shoot, a few weeks ago you could have been put in Facebook jail for saying Biden was cognitively challenged. “Misinformation” turns on a dime on the left these days. Watching the debate, the truth dawned on most of the decent-hearted folks who were genuinely deceived. The left knew. All the media and high Dem officials knew – and lied shamelessly and constantly to ordinary folks. Don’t get me wrong. The communist true believers will continue to squee like fangirls at a Taylor Swift concert, whether it is for Biden or whoever his replacement is. These yipping fangirls ALWAYS follow whatever narrative they are given, being incapable of building one of their own from facts, evidence, and logic. You may reasonably argue that anyone who trusts the information they get from the corporate press can’t be too bright anyway. Perhaps, but I know some very decent people of genuine good will who still equate our gutter press with the era of Walter Cronkite and Huntley-Brinkley. They just got red-pilled hard.

As they contemplate the reality that people they trusted brazenly lied to them – and for a very long time, real anger will set in. Some of them have smugly dismissed solid information as conspiracy theories for a long time, secure that the corporate media told them so. They are humiliated right now, having to face people they sneered at for so long knowing that those folks were right all along. People can get annoyed at disagreements. When they find they have been betrayed by people they trusted, they are not annoyed: they become consumed with raw fury at those who betrayed them. That is why the media was so quick to jump on the “Dump Biden” bandwagon. The gutter press wants to pretend it is just like you and was shocked. Just shocked. It is terrified that the folksies will figure out the grift and turn on them. The folksies are figuring it out as you read this. The debate burned up the last tatter of media credibility – and that of Dem officials. If I believed we would get to inauguration day without a few catastrophic convulsions, I would say this is big enough that it could shutter a lot of press outlets (or have them under new management) and blow up the Democratic Party, making way for a new center-left major party.

Watch over the next few weeks as the bottom falls out of the tub for the left completely. It will NOT be because Biden’s senility was unimpeachably revealed for all to see in real time. It is because the left lied so aggressively for so long about it. As it becomes more and more clear that even expanding on the already massive vote fraud that is a Democratic staple will not be enough, it will turn ugly. Leftists will go out and start doing what they constantly accuse the right of planning – rioting and committing violence. It’s what they always do when they don’t get their way. I have said for a long time that there is no middle ground in the modern culture wars. One side must win and the other lose. Officials on the right are going to have to quit walking on tiptoe around left-wing savages and start making mass arrests. Whatever our timid “betters” do, I do not intend to lose. The fullness of the confrontation is now a lot closer.

The only thing I regret about including the above segment is that it gives too much information on how I actually compose things – in pieces and parts, scattered across my desk and my laptop, incomprehensible to anyone but me. I know what final assembly requires – but anyone else would think these are all just random fragments. A woman I once dated informed me several decades ago that she was taking an adult course at a community college. One of her assignments was to write about the person she knew who had the most rigorous moral code. Curious, I asked her who she chose. To my astonishment, she said me. Startled, I asked how she lit on me. She replied that no one understood my moral code but me, but I was absolutely unwavering in it, and would get quite testy if anyone challenged me to do something I had decided was beyond the pale. I reckon, like my writing, the pieces and parts of our lives, if we work at it long enough and with resolve, ultimately become a coherent narrative.

I love the Pacific Coast Highway. It is one of my favorite places in the country. During my pilgrimage, I walked it from Santa Monica up to Point Mugu, where I then went inland to Oxnard, and then into the Los Padres National Forest and mountain range. It was so soothing at night to hear the constant sound of the ocean and the waves lapping at the shore. I can pull up starkly vivid memories of it. At least three times I have driven it from Los Angeles to San Francisco. It is like another world, a fantasy world. At the south end, there are many surfers – and many films being made. I walked through three sets on my pilgrimage. As you get north of Santa Barbara, you get into Big Sur and then, beyond that, there is a long section where rocks rise above the waves in vast, dense formations, like sentinels, protecting the coast.

California is truly a natural paradise. It took a lot of determined work by willful fools to so badly degrade it through its politics. One day, the politicians who have done this will be exiled and California will be a paradise once more. If I am fit enough to do so, I will walk it again then, making camp where I can, to be lulled to sleep by the gentle rhythm of the waves. How I admire God’s creation – knowing it is the Creator who is first to be admired. I look at our world like I look at a Rembrandt painting: dazzled by the artistry revealed and completely confounded by the genius of the artist.

I live for the Triumph of the Immaculate Heart and the great renewal of the faith and face of our world. I often give thanks that God has given me a little job to do – and pray that I will live here to see the fruit of His great renewal. And then, like the kid in the old Shake and Bake commercial, I will brag to my grandkids, “And I helped.”
