[Question] What’s the difference between the Rescue Tape above and the stuff in this link?
[Stuart’s Answer] Rescue tape can also be found at Amazon >
The white (tape itself) “plumber’s tape” or (I say this realizing that many things have their own regional names which may or may not elicit a “huh? Y’all aren’t from around here, are ya?” remark when you ask about it at the front counter of your friendly local hardware store, so use said terminology at your own risk…) out in the Western US I’ve heard it often called “Teflon tape” – this is used for sealing threaded pressurized water connections. Think of a water pipe connection on your well, the point where your washing machine water supply hoses screw onto the threads of their connections on the wall, shower heads, etc. You know how with some garden hoses, you screw them on the hose bib, turn it on, and a little water starts leaking out of the connection? That’s what this thin, white plumber’s tape is designed to fix. It sounds counterintuitive but you wrap it around the threads of the hose bib a few times before you screw the hose on, and it helps stop those leaks.
The Rescue Tape on the other hand is much thicker, and goes on the outside of things – you wouldn’t put it on threads of a connection, for example. I’ve only used it in context of keeping moisture out of connections, where you screw the antenna cable connectors together and then wrap the tape around the outside of the joint, spiraling it from one end to the other and making sure the wraps overlap so there is a continuous seal. You have to stretch it out as you roll it on to get it to seal to itself.
Does that help?
