[Mick] Sometimes the simplest thing is a “simple,” which is a single-remedy tea or tincture. For instance, for heart issues, I would simply use Hawthorne tincture. For liver or gall-badder issues, I would use either milk thistle (Carduus marianus) tincture or dandelion tea/tincture, whichever I had on hand. For anything lower respiratory, I would start with Mullein (tea preferred, but tincture would do); if I didn’t have that, then I’d use Violet or Thyme or Nettle. (If I had all 4, I’d mix them; but any one by itself would be a good start, especially Mullein.) For reducing stress, I’d use one of the nervine herbs: Thyme or Skullcap (not Baikal, but the one native to the US) or Chamomile or Lemon balm [but not lemon balm if the person has thyroid issues]. As a topical antiseptic, I’d be comfortable using any one of the following: Calendula, St. John’s wort, Echinacea angustifolia, Thyme, Oregano (Origanum vulgare), Cryptolepis, Tulsi (Holy basil, Sacred basil, or Indian basil), or any number of other herbs. For boosting the immune system I might use an adaptogenic herb like Tulsi, or I might use a tonic herb like Alfalfa or Plantain or Burdock or nettles, or a medicinal mushroom such as Chaga. My point is that more is not necessarily better, and simples can be just as effective as blends for many issues.
