Malaria Remedies

Ordinary Wisdom

Another word about malaria: Hydroxychloroquine (HCQ) is a synthetic derivative of the herb Peruvian Bark (Cinchona officinalis). A tincture of this herb, if used correctly, should work as both a prophylactic and treatment for malaria. And Marie mentioned Artemisia. There are various species of Artemisia that are used medicinally: Wormwood, Southernwood, and Sweet Annie are some of them. It is the last of these (Artemisia annua) that is used for malaria. Steven Harrod Buhner talks about it in his Herbal Antibiotics book. One thing about Sweet Annie is that it is best used fresh or tinctured fresh, because it loses a boatload of its medicinal efficacy once it is dried. So those who would like to be prepared for a potential outbreak of malaria might think about buying some Sweet Annie seeds and growing it themselves. Seeds may be purchased at Strictly Medicinal Seeds, Richters’, and Companion Plants (which also carries the plants, if someone would like to get a jump start). Cinchona officinalis (also called China) and Artemisia annua are also available in homeopathic form, as is the Malaria nosode. These would be good remedies to have on hand.
