  5. Repelling Deer & Rabbits

No guarantees here…but several years ago we were told by owners of a fairly large orchard in Huntington Indiana that they put raw beef liver about 1”x2” piece in a pop can and put a net over it to keep flies out…then they hang these around their orchard to keep deer out. We used this in our garden for the past 5 years. Last year we neglected to put them out and had lots of trouble with deer eating our sweet potato vines and rabbits nesting. This spring we had rabbits nesting in our raised beds. We put a pop can with liver in the bed. They did not return for 3 days. We took thecan out to get it ready to tie up etc. They returned. Since we put the cans out again, we have had no additional problems.

We have a deer run between our property and our back door neighbor. Before we put the liver out we had problems with the deer rubbing antlers against our fruit trees and eating our peaches…since then nothing.
